This week was extremely productive compared to previous weeks! I was able to finally get all the files in order and was able to review more transcripts this week than previously.
However, the topic for this week’s blog will suffer for it. Since nothing extremely notable happened involving the internship this week, the blog post is not coming to me fairly easily.
I suppose it would be productive of me to think of what I will put together for the internship showcase in August, so perhaps this will be a sort-of mind-map to plan out my presentation, so anyone who does not attend the showcase will still be able to hear what my presentation might look like.
One of the most challenging parts of this presentation will be the use of photos. Since my internship was a work-from-home internship, I doubt the audience would like to see photos of me sitting at my desk at home, so I will have to workshop something else to show.
Perhaps I can showcase all the things a work-from-home internship allowed me to do, like work longer hours during the week, and being able to travel during the summer months. I believe that will be a good way to show the benefits of not having to go into a certain office at a certain time of day.
On the other hand, the information presented within the showcase will have to be very broad, as I cannot cite specific examples due to legal reasons. I can absolutely explain that at the top of the presentation, but it will do little by way of interest.
Therefore, I will detail what my tasks were when it comes to each transcript and go into detail on how each task given to me had to be done.
One of the tasks assigned to me was giving feedback to the heads of my internship. This feedback was directly for the interns that came after me. For example, if the note template we used was the most effective one, how to make the transcriptions easier to edit, et cetera. I think delving into the fact that the HERstory internship was so flexible and adaptive to change is something to highlight, especially for those who wish to make a bigger difference. I know that my feedback will be heard and taken into consideration when organizing the interns for the fall semester, as my leads have informed me that they will be contacting Dr. Larson (remember that name if you wish to do an internship at the University of Central Florida) to create a listing for the position.
Unfortunately, this blog post, although helpful for me, does not have any advice for this week. I would say that if I DID have to give some kind of wisdom, it would just be weighing your options. I had another internship offer from a company outside of the university, but chose to do the HERstory internship due to the flexibility and internship class credit I received for it.
