Week 3

The main topic of this weeks blog post will be time management. As I am writing this, I am tabling for a first time in college orientation for my current job at the Outdoor Adventure Center at the Recreation and Wellness Center at the University of Central Florida. Unfortunately, due to my desire to continue to try new things and have experiences with my friends in my last semester of college, I had agreed to go country line dancing, and had forgotten to continue to type out my blog. I am also eating lunch whilst doing this, and have been trying to take a bite of my sandwich every two minutes or so.

Why did I do this to myself? Well, I am not entirely sure. I’m chalking it up to a valuable life lesson. I’ve never had an internship like the HERstory project before. It’s highly dependent on a student’s ability to regulate their executive function in a manner where it’ll fit into what they are doing.

I’ve always had a hard time doing that, and this week has been proof of that.

That being said, the work I had done this week has been productive. The most shocking thing about this week’s batch was the lack of grammatical errors. Nearly every transcription had little to no grammatical errors. This is especially shocking since the majority of the files in this batch are over 15 pages long. One would assume that the speed at which previous intern wished to get this done would have affected the grammar, but no. Honestly, I had felt kind of bad. A large scope of my internship is to screen each transcription to ensure that the information within the transcript is factual and grammatically correct.

Another observation I had made during the past week is that the interviewees are, of course, extremely knowledgeable, but that also makes my job extremely easy, as I do not have to fact check most of their transcripts. Although it’s heavily appreciated, as it makes my job that much easier, it’s hard to find things to blog about. That is, nothing to blog about that wouldn’t put me into legal trouble, as there aren’t release forms for most of the material that is being examined.

For the upcoming week, I think the main theme for my work will be productivity. I am so close to finishing this batch, and that in of itself will make me feel very accomplished. However, I will attempt to make sure that this week will be more time conscious, as I, like most people, extremely dislike the stress of time constraints when they are the product of my own creation.

What I had learned this week is that even though I have a cool new calendar that I had color coded and set up alerts on my phone in order to not forget anything, it does not guarantee I will remember to do it after the reminder. Time to think of a new method.
